On the evening of Tuesday May 6th, at the San Pedro Eks Lodge, Father-Con in collaboration with the Harbor Division of LAPD held a community awareness event to bring awareness to human trafficking and how it looks from the street. Councilman Tim McOsker and about 8 officers were there including an undercover officer with vice and the principal officer who handles human trafficking cases. Their Captain aslo shared about the division’s commitment to work with the community in fighting trafficking and the harms being done to children.
The evening started with showing a short film provided by Artists for Change, Lost Girls, directed by Julia Verdin.
The film led to over an hour of questions from the community members including 10 pastors of churches in the Southbay. Also present were 8 resource organizations such as Children of the Night and Parents of Murdered Children.
The program was schedule from 6 -8pm but most of the 90 attendees remained until just after 9 to continue the discussion. Two churches have since reached out to have education brought to their congregations in the near future. The ripple effect of this event will be far reaching and get valuable information to those who can put it to the best use.
